‘Encoding’ is attaching codes to information. In other words, with regards to the field of filming, it refers to the conversion of media, such as video footage, into digital data that can be handled on a computer.

AVI format ‘YUY2 Codec’ or ‘Microsoft DV Codec (Type2)’ on Windows-PC, and Quick Time format ‘DV NTSC’ on the Mac are some of the best adapted systems for carrying out non-linear editing.
